Darn it!

I finished the back last night and am doing well with the left front. But now I've realised I didn't work enough rows before starting the armholes on the back. Grrr! I measured from the bottom of the work instead of from the picked up edge. It may explain why I only used four balls of yarn instead of the five I was expecting based on the earlier part (I am a little worried about running out, but I think it will be OK).

There's discussion on Claudia's blog about the waywardness of row gauge. I do find it hard to maintain the gauge that I get in a swatch. I've been adding in some extra rows in the shaped parts because my row gauge is - in theory - more rows to the inch than the pattern. I am really enjoying this knit: the yarn is absolutely scrumptious and the fabric is soft and drapey. It seems to be growing fast, but I suppose I'm comparing it to two-colour knitting on 2 mm needles!

Still no USB but I'm on Samsung's case.

Official start

I know it's boring without photos, but I just want to record the official start of my commitment to knitting 'Lift and Separate', the wrapover cardigan from Big Girl Knits. I cast on last night, after quite a bit of swatching and calculating the shaping according to my row gauge. I'm loving knitting with Blue Sky Alpaca sportweight (colour Chartreuse).

I will not cast on for anything new until the cardigan is finished (but I may pick up existing projects from time to time!).
